Samsung Makes A Curved Smartphone
Samsung's Brian Berkeley shows a prototype smartphone with a curved screen at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

  • Samsung plans to introduce a smartphone with a curved display screen.
  • Curved screens are rare among smartphones since they usually have a flat, rectangular display.
  • The displays are supposed to offer a more immerse viewing experience, but are significantly more expensive than standard screens.
  • The edges of the smartphone would open exponentially more space for viewing content.
  • It opens up into a small tablet.
  • This bendable display screen could be unbreakable.
  • However, it still faces a major challenge in making other handset components, such as batteries, that can bend with the rest of the unit.
  • Whether the phone would be plastic or not is undecided.
  • This phone could be a version of the Galaxy S3.
  • The Nexus smartphone, which was release in 2011, had a slight curve to it, but this phone takes the concept further.
  • A curved screen would also boost Samsung's status as a leader on the mobile innovation front.
  • No exact price or release date.
